Harrow on the Hill war memorial

Erection date: 26/6/1923

Inscription

{On the front of the plinth, and then anti-clockwise:}
Harrow on the Hill Town Memorial
Their name liveth for evermore
For God and king, hearth and home
As gold in the furnace he proved them

{On the frieze of the plinth:}
To the glorious memory of those who died for us.

Names are inscribed on the vertical faces of the 4 steps leading up to the plinth. Many of these are too weather-beaten to read so we have not attempted our usual photograph-transcription job. Some sections have been restored but others now need that loving care. As we'd hoped we've found the list of 317 names at the .

Quotations:
"Their name liveth for evermore": King James Bible: Ecclesiasticus, 44-14.
"For God and king, hearth and home": we could find no source for this phrase.
"As gold in the furnace he proved them" Wisdom 3-6 (Wisdom is considered a Book of the Bible by some.)
"To the glorious memory of those who died for us": we could find no source for this phrase.
