{On the stained-glass plaque to the left:}
Here, in the month of October, 1637, Phineas Pett, the master ship-builder, having fixed the rigging and sails at the yards, conducteth King Charles 1st on board H.M.S. “Sovereign of the Seas”, before her final departure from Woolwich, & the King is mightily pleased.

{On the stained-glass plaque to the right:}
H.M.S. “Sovereign of the Seas”, whose burden was 1637 tons, being the very number of the year of her launching, was 127 feet long by the keel and 47 feet broad by the beam. Her building cost the King the affection of many of his subjects who rebelled against the levy of ship-money.

The text names Phineas Pett as the builder of this ship, but gives "... This was supervised by Peter Pett ... guided by his father Phineas, the royal shipwright ..." and "Builder: Peter Pett, Woolwich Dockyard". Also, from page: "Peter Pett built HMS Sovereign of the Seas at Woolwich Dockyard, from the plans made by his father."
