Plaque

Joseph Priestley - E5

Inscription

Joseph Priestley, theologian, scientist & discoverer of oxygen, lived in a house on this site, 1792 - 1794.
London Borough of Hackney

The house was demolished in 1880 and we have failed to find a picture of it. At the time this section of street may have been called Clapton Place.

Site: Joseph Priestley & Joshua Watson (2 memorials)

E5, Lower Clapton Road, 113, 117

Hackney plaques are quite small and not a stand-out colour. The Priestley plaque is on the Caribbean Cuisine building, 113, to the left of the first floor window. The Watson plaque, at 117, is also at first floor level, above the H of Hackney Vet.
