Bust

Keib Thomas bust

Inscription

{On a plaque attached to the front of the plinth:}
Keib Thomas (1946 - 2007) community activist, whose work inspired and transformed the lives of countless people and organizations in Southwark and beyond.

{The sculptor's name is inscribed at the back of the statue's base:}
Ashim Paul

The bust was from Calcutta, "a spiritual home for Keib". His bust in the Islamic garden depicts a great listener & story-teller, with his signature ‘beatnik’ look. Note that the statue base consists of a pile of books.

SE5, Burgess Park, Chumleigh World Garden

These gardens are rather hidden and finding them was like discovering a little maze of secret gardens. We've since learnt that this is the Chumleigh World Garden, with plants and landscaping designed to reflect the diversity of the surrounding population of this highly cosmopolitan portion of London.
