{On plaque fixed to stone base:}
From children of the Loyal Temperance Legion in memory of work done for the temperance cause by Lady Henry Somerset, the president, National British Women's Temperance Assoc. incorporated June 1896.
I was thirsty and ye gave me drink.

A reproduction by Philomena Davidson Davis 1999.

The original bronze statue by Wade in 1897 was stolen in 1971 when it was sawn off at the feet. A copy by Davis of the original statue was unveiled in February 1999 by the City Council.
