SW3, Chelsea Manor Street

The Church plaque can be seen at the lower left of our photo. The club plaque is below the window to the left of the stepped entrance.

shows "Meth. Ch. (Wes.)" at the site of the Church plaque and an unnamed building, about half as wide but just as deep, at the site of the club plaque. The rest of Manor Street, down to what is now Chelsea Manor Gardens, is shown as cleared, waiting for development. At an OS map (1940-60) shows a 'Methodist Church' and a 'Club'.

Both sites were developed in 1903 and the has a 1901 photo of this section of street, taken from King's Road, with "demolition under way". The photo our our Manor Street Methodist Church page shows both these new buildings.

This is a lovely plaque but the fireman's helmet on a plaque for a police constable is odd. It doesn't even seem as if a fire was involved.
