Empire Music Hall (Granada Cinema) 1908 - 1970
The Empire Theatre opened on 26th December 1908 as a 1,300 seat music hall theatre with some film use. Famed as the final performance venue of music hall star Marie Lloyd in 1922. In 1951 it became the Granada and closed in 1968.
Created by Art Start with year 6 pupils from St. Edmunds RC Primary School.
Funded by the Heritage Lottery January 2010.

We've always known the song as "I'm one of the ruins that Cromwell knocked about a bit" and that's what has as the lyric. But the hold the sheet music from the early 20th century, with a lovely front cover, with title: "It's a Bit of a Ruin that Cromwell Knocked about a Bit". Maybe the V&A version was used for teaching piano and the more risqué version was sung in the music halls.
