Plaque

Michael Sobell

Inscription

Sir Michael Sobell, 1892 - 1993, recognising his contribution towards this Centre for the local community.
The Sobell Foundation
London Borough of Islington

Site: Michael Sobell (1 memorial)

N7, Tollington Road, Sobell Centre

The plaque can be seen in our photo, just in front and above the man in the high-vis. It is attached to the black slate at the entrance, into which, low down has been inscribed: "Architects: R. Seifert & Partners. Contractor: William Moss & Sons Ltd, July 1973".

This is one of Seifert's most difficult to like buildings.  The approach to the entrance is a mess, practically and visually: traffic, barriers, parking, signage, signage, signage. And the textured concrete desperately needs a clean.

has a good article on the Centre, its architecture, history, etc.
