Statue

Millais statue

Erection date: 1904

Inscription

{Front of the plinth:}
John Everett Millais

{On the base of the statue:}
T. Brock. RA Sc. 1904

Millais helped found the Tate Gallery in the building behind.

Peter Duby points out that this statue is unusual in that it incorporates a recognisable piece of furniture, the small table with a drawer. So far the only other statue so furnished (pun intended, sorry) we can recall is the Lincoln at Parliament Square, where the subject looks like he has just stood up.
