Plaque

MOTH Hackney WW2 memorial

Inscription

This plaque honours those citizens of Hackney whether recorded or unknown, civilian or combatant, who lost their lives in the Second World War 1939 - 1945.
{MOTH logo}
We, the members of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats pay tribute to their unflinching steadfastness in pursuit of a victory which was not theirs to see . . .

That ". . . " suggests that the preceding words are a quotation. The best we can come up with is "The future's not ours to see. Que sera, sera". Did they really mean to quote that?
