Pimlico Hostelry and Pleasure Gardens

This site formed part of the Pimlico Hostelry and Pleasure Gardens, a noted place of entertainment, established by 1590s. Ben Jonson, playwright, poet and writer of court masques, fought a duel near here.

The Pimlico Tavern was in Hogsden (now Hoxton), close to The Curtain, The Theatre, and The Fortune playhouses, which explains Jonson's presence in the area, and that of his fellow duellist, an actor.
