She died aged 101 but here she is shown aged 51, the age she was widowed, wearing the robes of the Order of the Garter. 9 ft 6 ins, bronze statue by Jackson. Facing the steps on either side of the statue are deep reliefs by Paul Day showing, to the left: 2 scenes - King and Queen visiting bombed-out Londoners during WW2, King and Queen posing at home with their two young daughters, and to the right: 3 scenes - meeting veterans, at the races, at home with her corgies in Scotland. These are in the same style as the reliefs around Day's huge Kiss statue at St Pancras. The memorial was funded from the sale of a £5 coin produced by the Royal Mint to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday. The Royals listed at 'Created by' attended the unveiling. In February 2011 Prince Charles was reported as installing a copy of this statue in a square in Poundbury, his eco-friendly village in Dorset.

SW1, The Mall
The statue behind is her husband King George VI, erected in 1955, so the two statues show them both at about the same date. The position of this statue is so good one suspects that the George VI memorial must have been designed with this in mind as the final layout.
