Field Marshal Earl Roberts VC, KG, KP, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCIE, VD. Born in India 1832. Died in France 1914. Commander -in-chief in India 1885 - 1893. Commander-in-Chief of the British Army 1901 - 1904.

Unveiled by the Duke of Connaught and we thank Jamie Davis for finding  to the British Pathe news film of the unveiling. This is a smaller copy of a statue erected in Calcutta of which there is also a copy in Glasgow. It was considered by  G. F. Watts as "the finest equestrian statue of modern times".
