Plaque

Short Brothers - NW2

Inscription

The Short Brothers: Horace (1872 - 1917), Eustace (1875 - 1932), Oswald (1883 - 1969), aeronautical engineers, lived here.

The plaque was erected in or before May 2009.

Site: Short Brothers - NW2 (1 memorial)

NW2, Ranulf Road, 1

The report that "The three brothers bought Emma {their mother} the house in Ranulf Road near the cemetery in 1916, and she lived there until 1934." The house (practically) backs on to the Hampstead Cemetery.  The first brother died in 1917 but perhaps the family plot had been set up earlier.

So our first thought that perhaps this was their childhood home is proved incorrect.  In fact, it seems unlikely that they ever lived here, other than when visiting their mother.
