Sidney Lewis, 1903 - 1969, youngest British soldier, First World War, aged twelve, lived here.
Placed by public subscriptions

The reports of the fund-raising campaign for this plaque named "historian Geoff Simmons" and it was said that the plaque would be "unveiled by {Lewis's} 83-year-old son Colin".

This section of Garratt Lane (Fountain Road - Tooting High Road) used to be named Defoe Road. It changed to Garratt Lane between the 1938 and 1939 electoral registers.
