Fountain

Silver Jubilee fountain

Erection date: 4/5/1977

Inscription

{The rim of the basin is inscribed with:}
God save the Queen
1952 1977

{and something like (the trees obscured our view):}
The gift of the Members of the House of Commons

Funded by private donations from MPs and unveiled by the Queen. 26 foot high, made of galvanised strips of steel, painted black, with a series of Commonwealth beasts representing Europe, Africa, America, Asia, Australia and Antarctica, all surmounted by a golden crown.

2025: The artist confirmed to us that the sculpture does not revolve, despite rumours to the contrary.

Site: Silver Jubilee fountain (1 memorial)

SW1, New Palace Yard

This fountain is in a security-inaccessible garden, surrounded by heavily pollarded trees so photos from the street are nigh impossible. Our photos were taken on two separate occasions, attending events in the Houses of Parliament when we were allowed through security. One was a dark, dismal day, very cold - that is ice! The other was warmer and brighter.
