Plaque

Sir John Wolfe Barry - Tower Bridge

Inscription

Tower Bridge
Opened 1894, built to the design of Sir John Wolfe Barry. The whole mechanical construction is unique in the world and the acme of steam and hydraulic power of the Victorian era.

{Round the edge at the bottom:}
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers

{The crest at the top is that of the IMechE.}

We knew about this plaque but it's inside the Tower Bridge engine rooms, to the south of the Bridge. These are only accessible to visitors on the tour so we had no photo. Until 's roving reporter, Matt Brown, sent us one. Many thanks, Matt.
