This building was originally the School House, begun in 1821 by Sir William Rawlins.
From we learn that: Many layers of paint were removed from the statues and they are now kept inside the building, behind glass. The statues in the niches are replicas.

The base of the statue is inscribed "Wm. MacMillan Sc. 1963". The pose is taken from Hogarth's portrait. Unveiled by Princess Anne.
Beard, balding head . . and the stance and outfit are very similar to those of the Scheemakers statue.
