Walklings Bakery bomb

In memory of all those who were tragically killed on 17th April 1941 whilst sheltering in the cellars of Walklings Bakery. The building, which stood on the corner of The Cut and Greet Street, suffered a direct hit killing all 54 people.

The plaque was first erected in 1997 on the previous Young Vic building. carries a good report of the second unveiling and reports that the shelter was hit by two bombs. Inside the theatre is a roll of honour with all the names.

We have never previously heard of Walklings Bakery. There was another branch in East Ham but that's all we can discover about them.
