Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second lay in state here from the fourteenth of September until her burial at Windsor on the nineteenth of September two thousand & twenty-two.

Around 250,000 people are believed to have filed past the coffin.

The tradition of deceased monarchs and their consorts lying in state in this hall and the event being commemorated with a plaque dates back to 1910.  Exceptions are: Queen Alexandra (d.1925) lay in state at Westminster Abbey; Prince Philip (d.2021) who had requested minimal fuss and lay at rest in the private St George's Chapel, Windsor Chapel.
