Inscription

City of Westminster
William Lilly (1602 - 1681) master astrologer, lived in a house on this site.

Site: William Lilly (1 memorial)

WC2, Strand

2015: Via Facebook Deborah Houlding, who has an interest in astrology, told us that this plaque is not really in the right place - it needs to be much closer to the river, in Temple Place, at the junction with Strand Lane (now a gated street), on the east side. Deborah provides references that we find convincing. The map of 1682 shows the parish boundary running down Strand Lane with 5 or 6 houses on the east side. Lilley's was the south-most house close to the river stairs known as “Strand Bridge”. Thank you, Deborah.

2019: We've been contacted by someone who does not agree with Deborah's analysis. We are not in a position to arbitrate on matters of this sort. We can only ask - if and when they discuss it and reach agreement please let us know.
