Sculpture

Wimpey

Erection date: 16/12/1980

Inscription

{Bronze plaque on the low plinth:}
Ridirich by Keith McCarter {means Knight in Gaelic}
This sculpture was unveiled on 16th December 1980 by Sir Joseph Latham to commemorate the centenary of George Wimpey Limited.

{On south side of the bronze:}
McCarter 1/3

Site: Wimpey (1 memorial)

EC3, Aldgate High Street

OK, a bit Henry Moore-lite but we like this piece although the setting rather lets it down.  But we love the Christmas-decorated pub in the background (.) And finding this commemoration of Wimpey's centenary is timely, since they are the company that built the 1908 Olympic stadium.

2016: reports that the pub, the historic Still & Star, is at risk of demolition, and the proposed replacement building is stunningly awful.
