The house was designed and built for Clarkson's theatrical costume shop. His celebrated theatrical clients laid the foundation and coping stones, symbolically the first and last stones in the construction of a house.

A security guard helpfully pulled aside the Keren's Nursery banner so we could photo the plaque on the wall behind.
According to Wikipedia the State of Victoria was founded in 1851 so this plaque was erected 16 years too early to commemorate that event....
