WW1 memorial cross - from St John's

Inscription

{On stones either side of the cross:}
In Memoriam

1914 - 1918
1939 - 1945

{On the plaque below:}
This crucifix was removed from St John's Church, Wilton Road which was destroyed by enemy action on 11 October 1940. The crucifix commemorates those who fell in the wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. St John's was the daughter church of St Peter's, Eaton Square and accordingly the memorial was placed here.

Site: WW1 memorial cross - from St John's (1 memorial)

SW1, Hobart Place, St Peter's Church, Knightsbridge Kindergarten

The cross looks as if the church was designed to hold it, but no. St Peters was built 1824-27 and this section, by Sir Arthur Blomfield, was added in 1875. We've failed to find an image showing this facade pre-WW2 to see how it used to look without the cross.

At the front of the church, on Eaton Square, there are 3 other memorials.

Ao. Di. instead of A.D. is very unusual. Fecit is Latin: 'he made it'.
