Born as Alan Dower Blumlein in Hampstead. Died in WW2, aged 38, during the secret trial of an H2S airborne radar system then under development. He was in a Halifax bomber, kitted out as a flying laboratory, which crashed at Welsh Bicknor in Herefordshire. All 11 on board were killed.

Blumlein was honoured with a Grammy award in 2017 for his work in audio recording.

In 1992, on the 50th anniversary of the plane crash, a Radar memorial stained glass window was dedicated at Goodrich Castle to the 11 who died.

Our is an article about the crash and the "memorial appeal for war plane crash scientist".
