Alfred Hitchcock

Film director. Born at 517 Leytonstone High Road above his father William’s greengrocery and poultry shop. See for an unusual take on his life in Leytonstone. When Alfie was about 7 the family moved to a fishmongers in Limehouse. As a child he was fascinated by the idea of travel and later claimed to have jouirneyed on every London omnibus route.

Worked at Gainsborough Film Studios 1925 - 27 where he made three films. While here he married his assistant director, Alma Reville and she was, for the rest of his life, his most important collaborator but always uncredited. Hitchcock died in California.

Leytonstone tube station carries excellent mosaics of key scenes from 17 of the films.
