Althorp Lodge

Althorp Lodge

In this building Robert Sadler opened a pub and leisure gardens. In 1853, using the land behind the pub, he opened the Copenhagen Running Grounds.

"The ground eventually closed in 1864 following complaints by locals upset by the rowdy crowds. Althorp Lodge was demolished in 1900, to be replaced by a parade of shops, later destroyed in the war. Burmester House, Burmester and Aldren Roads and a housing estate now cover the site."

That quote comes from , the clearest source we have found. It credits a book by Kevin Kelly as its source. We think the title of the book is 'The Copenhagen Running Grounds of Garrett Lane'.

The Sadler family home is also on this , possibly the building shown immediately below the 'M' of "B. M.3.2.9".

is also a very informative source.
