Newspaper proprietor, The News of the World in particular. Chairman of the Royal Free Hospital, Gray's Inn Road, in 1926 when he, together with George Eastman, and Sir Albert Levy, funded the construction of the Eastman Dental Clinic. In 1920 became the first divorced peer to enter the Lords. 

Born 2 Stanhope Place, Loughborough Road Brixton Heath. Died at home, Walton Heath House, Walton on the Hill, Banstead, Surrey.
