Bosch Magneto Company

Established in 1906 by Robert Bosch as his London subsidiary. Their first store was opened in March 1898 in Store Street. This wonderful photo shows them moving out of that building () to 40 & 42 Newman Street.

As the company expanded it was decided to build much larger premises and in 1913 the first part of the building on Tottenham Court Road was opened. The business was incorporated as a Limited Company in 1914, when it had 90 workmen and a staff of 70. However WW1 meant that the British state confiscated property owned by Germans and in 1917 everything previously owned by Bosch was sold to Vickers, thus ending the Bosch business in the UK. Bosch's return to the UK began in 1924 with the formation of Bosch Ltd in Glasgow.

Another photo, dated 1926, at , shows being run by Stevens (one of the Bosch management team) and advertising Bosch products.
