David Baxter

David Baxter was born on 4 February 1909 in Islington. He was the son of David Baxter (1876-1947) and Rose Baxter née Bassill (1870-1949). His father was a brewery drayman.

The 1911 census shows the family living at 38 Thornhill Road, Islington, but by 1918 electoral registers show his parents listed at 76 Wenlock Street, Shoreditch.

The 1939 England and Wales Register shows him still living with his parents at 76 Wenlock Street. His occupation was recorded as a porter - furniture & removals, whilst his father remaind as a brewer's drayman.

He joined the Royal Navy, service number P/JX 272672. He was rated as an Able Seaman serving aboard HMS Egret, a sloop, when he died, aged 32 years, on 27 September 1941. The subsequent coroners inquiry ruled that his death was by 'Misadventure - accidently fell into a river at night and drowned'.

He was buried in the Church of England Plot, Section F, Grave 12, in the Londonderry City Cemetery, Lone More Lane, Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
