Politician. Born David Grüen in Ptońsk, Russian Empire (modern day Poland). In Palestine in 1919 he founded a socialist party and led the Mapai (Labour) party from 1930. He participated in the St James Conference in London in 1939, which tried to solve the problem of Palestine. Became first Prime Minister of the state of Israel in 1948. Died in Tel Aviv-Yafo.

Politician, socialist-anarchist. Born Amsterdam. Began as a Lutheran preacher, lost his faith and then seems to have continued moving left-wards all his life. Born and died in the Netherlands.
Administrator in India and South Africa. An enlightened 19th century administrator, who nonetheless caused the Zulu Wars by giving Cetshwayo, the Zulu king, an unacceptable ultimatum.
Built on the site of Walsingham's mansion, this was the Navy Office in which Samuel Pepys lived and worked.  Survived the Great Fire partly due to Pepys' efforts.  Destroyed by another fire in 1673...
