Guardsman Frederick Horace Davey

Frederick Horace Davey was born on 6 March 1916, the son of Fitzroy Horace Davey (c.1887-1926) and Violet Annie Davey née Colley born c.1893). His birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1916 in the Willesden Registration District, Middlesex (now Greater London).

On 23 March 1916 he was baptised in St Martin's Church, 132-4, Mortimer Road, Kensal Rise, London, NW10 5SN, where the baptismal register confirms his date of birth, that his family were living at 133 Purves Road, Kensal Rise and that his father was a postman.

In October 1933 he was appointed as a Postman Messenger in the London Postal Service and promoted to Sorter in June 1936.

He joined the Welsh Guards, service number 2737283, and was serving in their 3rd Battalion when he died, aged 27 years, on 11 February 1944. His body was initially buried near where he fell but was subsequently , in the Minturno War Cemetery, Minturno, Provincia di Latina, Lazio, Italy.

Probate records confirm his address had been 133 Purves Road, Kensal Rise, and that when administration of his estate was granted to his widowed mother on 11 July 1944 his effects totalled £532-15s-9d. She was also sent his General Post Office pension of £187-15s-5d on 2 August 1944 followed by a bonus payment of £33-13s-10d on 14 December 1944.

He is shown as 'DAVEY  F.H.' on the Western Postal District war memorial at Mount Pleasant, London, WC1. He is also commemorated on the and on .
