Hatfield rail crash

A great North Eastern Railway Intercity 225 train bound for Leeds left London King's Cross station at 12.10. It was travelling along the East Coast main line when at 12.23 it derailed south of Hatfield Station.
Four passengers were killed and a further 33 were injured.
It was found that a rail had fragmented causing 'rolling contact fatigue'.
