Island Records

Record company. Founded by Chris Blackwell, Graeme Goodall, and Leslie Kong in Jamaica. In 1989 it was sold to PolyGram, which was itself taken over by Universal Music Group.

In the early days it was based in Kilburn, then Neasden, then Ladbroke Grove. 1973 - 2005 it was at 22 St Peter's Square  Hammersmith.

Names associated: Bob Marley & The Wailers, U2, Steve Winwood, Robert Palmer, Grace Jones, Angelique Kidjo and Baaba Maal, Millie, Aswad, Steel Pulse and Hi-Tension.
