James Bruce MacQuarrie

Captain James Bruce MacQuarrie was born on 30 September 1933 the younger son of James Granville MacQuarrie (1894-1971) and Joan MacQuarrie née Fisk (1906-1964). Some records show his family name as Macquarrie and others as MacQuarrie. We have opted for MacQuarrie as this is the way it is inscribed on most memorials.

Both our Picture Source and the gives more information about him including his military service and that his employment commenced with Pan American World Airways in 1964.

He died, aged 55 years, on 21 December 1988 whilst the pilot and in command of Pan AM Flight 103 travelling from London (Heathrow) Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City, when it exploded over Lockerbie, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. He was survived by his wife, Janet, and their two children, Michael and Pamela.

He is also commemorated on both the  and the  that are at Dryfesdale Cemetery, Dumfries Road, Lockerbie, DG11 1HZ, as well as on the  in Arlington National Cemetery, 1 Memorial Avenue, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
