John Heminge

Fellow actor and friend of William Shakespeare and Henry Condell.

Heminge and Condell had been co-partners with Shakespeare in the Globe Theatre. On his death the plays existed only in the form of the scripts used by the actors. Heminge and Condell decided to gather all these manuscripts together, edit and publish them. These are the famous Shakespeare First Folios, published in 1623, without which we would have no Juliet, no Bottom and no Hamlet.

John Heminge lived in the parish of St Mary Aldermanbury at least 42 years and was married here. He had 14 children, 13 of whom were baptized, 4 buried, and one married here. He was buried here October 12 1630. He and his wife were also buried here.
