We wonder if it was his death which caused the final break up of the tea industry activities at Sir John Lyon House in 2005.
Our colleague Andrew Behan was able to find what is admittedly a poor quality image of the man taken on his Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Immigration Card in 1961 on the ancestry.co.uk website. He also confirms that Keith Nigel Loudoun-Shand was born on 13 October 1927, the son of Eric Gordon Loudoun-Shand MC, TD (1893-1972) and Dorothy Loudoun-Shand née Feldtmann (1904-1979). His birth was registered in the Bromley registration district, Kent (now Greater London).
On 24 April 1936 he arrived at Southampton, Hampshire, having left Walvis Bay, South West Africa (now called Namibia), with his mother aboard the SS Adolph Woermann of the Woermann-Linie of Hamburg, Germany. The ship's manifest describes them travelling 1st class, he was shown as a scholar and his mother as a housewife, both residing at Flat A, Shelley Court, Tite Street, London, SW3.
On 5 August 1949 he embarked from the Port of Liverpool, Lancashire, aboard the SS Warwickshire of the Bibby Steamship Line bound for Columbo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). In the ship's manifest he is shown as travelling 1st Class, a tea broker, residing at 16 Carlyle Mansions, Cheyne Walk, London, SW3. This address is also confirmed in the electoral registers where he was listed from 1948 to 1960.
He married Gerardine Carol Evelyn Francis (b.1933) in the 2nd quarter of 1959 in the Westminster registration district, London and they had four daughters: Henrietta L. Loudoun-Shand (b.1961); Arabella F. Loudoun-Shand (b.1963); Sophia Loudoun-Shand (b.1969) and Katherine Emma Loudoun-Shand (b.1972) whose births were all registered in the Southwark registration district, London.
Telephone directories from 1961 to 1965 showed him listed at 20 Cope Place, London, W8 and in the electoral registers for the same period both he and his wife are also listed there.
As a Major and a Brevet Colonel in the Queen's Royal Rifles, service number 372581, Territorial Army (later T.A.R.O. - Territorial Army Reserve of Officers) he was made a Officer in the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the .
Telephone directories from 1966 showed him listed Mount Bures Hall, Bures, Suffolk and electoral registers from 2003 to 2004 showed him at Mount Bures Hall, Hall Road, Mount Bures, Bures, CO8 5AS. He died, aged 77 years, on 5 May 2005, his death being registered in the Colchester registration district, Essex.
