Andrew Behan has kindly provided this research: Lilian Gladys Hawkridge was born on 12 March 1910 in Upton Park, the daughter of William James Hawkridge and Ethel May Hawkridge, née Rouse. Her father was a pork butcher's assistant and the 1911 census show the family living at 84 Sebert Road, Forest Gate.
Electoral registers from 1918 show the family were living at 64 Abbott Road, Poplar and they were still there at the time of the 1939 England and Wales Register when she is recorded as being single, working as a milliner and with the A.R.P Services, the plaque stating that she was a nurse. She died, aged 30 years, on 18 September 1940 when a high explosive bomb fell on Saunders Ness Road School, Isle of Dogs, London, E.14, that was being used as Auxiliary Fire Service Sub Station No.35U. She is also commemorated in the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour, located near St. George's Chapel in Westminster Abbey.
The plaque erroneously shows her first forename spelt as Lillian. All public records show her first forename spelt as Lilian.
