Mary Shelley

Born in London, at the Polygon building in Somers Town. Parents: William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft, Eleven days after her birth her mother died. Most famous for writing "Frankenstein".

A frequent visitor to her mother's grave it was there that she declared her love to the married Percy Bysshe Shelley, met through her father. Aged 17 she eloped with him and, after the suicide of his first wife, married him.

Mary was buried with Percy's heart, at St Peters churchyard, Bournemouth.
