Private Jack Askham

6-foot tall and aged 17 the youngest member of his Home Guard unit, Jack was selected to model for Bruce Bairnsfather who was preparing the artwork for a government advertising campaign 'Salute the Soldier, War Savings'. The result was a nationwide campaign of 12-foot posters, newspaper adverts and these plaques.

The picture source is from the local paper where we first heard this story.

Note: we know of three other soldiers who also did some modelling - see Dudley.
