Presented by the War Office in recognition of successful achievement in Salute the Soldier Week.

 

At we found a similar plaque on sale for £250: “Moulded ivory coloured bakelite wall plaque. Measures approx. 35 X 58 cm and weighs about 3kg. Made by De La Rue Plastics {their name is on the back of the plaques}.  The War Savings Campaign was set up by the British Government in November 1939. These wall plaques were presented to organisations for raising above a certain amount of money.”

Above the entrance on the left "Public Library" and in the stone decorations: "1908" and "HBC" for Holborn Borough Council.  .  Shakespeare's bust is on the base of the first floor bow window to the left.  The entrance to the right takes you into the lobby where the two plaques are to be found.
