Born in Budapest, Vajda studied with Kodály. From the : "... came to the United Kingdom in 1969 at the request of Yehudi Menuhin and on the recommendation of Zoltán Kodály to introduce Kodály's Principles of Musicianship Training to the UK."

Died in London.
