His grave stone is inscribed: "In loving memory of Ann, mother of the above {sic} who died 2nd Decr. 1908, aged 86 years.  In affectionate remembrance of Robert Woodger Bowers, Alderman & historian of Southwark, guardian of the poor, promoter of social reform, public libraries and popular education in south London Born: June 16th 1855. Died: November 18th 1919."
