Merchant and James I’s Ambassador to Turkey, 1611 - 20. Born Northamptonshire. Became very rich and built a mansion in Bishopgate Street Without, just beyond the City walls. The mansion and its grounds lay on the area now partly occupied by platforms 14-18 of Liverpool Station. As the city expanded northwards the grounds were built over and the mansion became the Paul Pindar tavern. In 1890 the building was demolished to make way for the enlarging of Liverpool Street Station and the facade was given to the .
