Sycamore Laundry

Categories: Commerce

Sycamore Laundry

It began as a business run by a Mrs. Buckland, who was said to have collected laundry in a barrow and washed and ironed it at home. In l880, Alexander Leman, married Mrs Buckland's daughter, and he took over the laundry. He moved it to Old Town (the site of the plaque), where the washing was collected by horse-drawn vans. It remained a family business until a merger with a larger laundry, Blossom and Browne.
