Died aged five years. Andrew Behan has kindly carried out some research on this little girl. Vera Margaret Clayson was born on 9 March 1912 in Romford, Essex, a daughter of Stephen George Clayson and Alice Eliza Clayson née Atkinson. Her father was an Assistant Grocer according to the 1911 census. They moved to 23 Market Street, Poplar and she attended Upper North Street School where, along with 17 other children she was killed, aged 5 years, as a result of a bombing raid by German aircraft on 13 June 1917. She was buried in a mass grave containing 15 fellow pupils at the the East London Cemetery and Crematorium, 230a Grange Road, Plaistow.
