Plaque

Anti-fascists

Inscription

In recognition of 20,000 people who gathered nearby on 3rd October 1937 to oppose a march by the Fascist Blackshirt Movement.
They shall not pass.
This plaque was erected by the London Borough of Southwark and Southwark Trades Council

Site: John Harvard and the Anti-fascists (2 memorials)

SE1, Borough High Street, 211, John Harvard Library

The Harvard plaque does not explain why it is here, on this particular spot. Possibly his father's butcher's shop was here.

The Anti-fascists plaque is inside the library near the entrance door.
