John Harvard, 1607-1638, first benefactor of Harvard University. Born in Southwark, baptized in the cathedral and educated in the parish's grammar school. Sailed to Massachusetts, 1637.

The Harvard plaque does not explain why it is here, on this particular spot. Possibly his father's butcher's shop was here.
The Anti-fascists plaque is inside the library near the entrance door.
