Plaque

Boswell and Johnson

Erection date: 1984

Inscription

In this house, occupied by Thomas Davies, bookseller, Dr Samuel Johnson first met James Boswell in 1763.
Greater London Council

Site: Boswell and Johnson (1 memorial)

WC2, Russell Street, 8

Sometime between 2009 and 2012 a long blue panel was added to this building, low on the left. The text adds some detail to the famous meeting. We've decided not to add the panel here as a memorial since it is riddled with typographic or language errors (difficult to know which). Part of it replicates a heritage blue plaque to the extent of having 'Greater London Council' around the top. I think we can be sure that neither the GLC nor English Heritage had anything to do with it.
