We think this plaque was probably erected in 1882 when the land was repurposed from burial ground to a garden, but a lot of the inscription is lost. Possibly more could be read with the use of fingers.

We love the repeated "etc."s to indicate the Duke's excessively long list of honours, etc. (now we're at it!).
The doors are labelled "Prince Edward Theatre", whose main entrance is in Old Compton Street.
The Betjeman and the Centenary plaque both used to be at the Cheese shop but by March 2016 they had been moved here.
